Orianna Health Systems Declares Bankruptcy, Negligence Lawsuits Halted Immediately

Orianna Health Systems Experiencing Financial Difficulty and Legal Challenges (Again)

Orianna Health Systems Declares Bankruptcy, Negligence Lawsuits Halted ImmediatelyOrianna Health Systems is the top nursing home management company in South Carolina’s Upstate region. While managing more than 40 care facilities, 4,000 beds, and over 5,000 employees, the company appears to have lost its grip on acceptable care standards, to the point that is has come under fire on multiple occasions.

Orianna Health Systems has also fallen on hard times due to recent financial difficulty. In addition to being sued by a number of families for providing inadequate and unacceptable care and facing allegations of responsibility for a number of patient deaths, the Upstate company has now filed for bankruptcy.
Until it filed for bankruptcy, the company was defending more than 40 separate lawsuits from patients and their families on the basis of nursing home negligence. Much of the financial trouble that led to their bankruptcy came from the $6.5 million defending these lawsuits. Since 2011, the company has also poured more than $4 million into settlements with family members of deceased residents.

Lawsuits Against Orianna Health Systems Stopped in Wake of Bankruptcy Filing

All pending lawsuits against the company have been halted as of March 2018, including a case being handled by Attorney Matt Christian, involving an 82-year-old man who fell, broke his hip, and died almost immediately after moving into Orianna’s Simpsonville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Christian is seeking to continue the lawsuit, despite the company’s bankruptcy filing, and demand that the company resume making payments on previously settled negligence suits against it.
